Linen King was founded by L.K. McCullough, Kevin Jordan, and Leonard McCullough. Each owner brings a unique platform of ideas and skills to the table that provides for vertical, as well as horizontal utilization of resources.
The Linen King concept was developed from an earnest desire to operate the best linen service in the southwest region, while at the same time serving the community by employing disabled workers. In 1997, Leonard and his wife Jennie decided to move “back home” to the Tulsa area and investigate building a business with Leonard’s father, L.K. McCullough. At that time, L.K. was successfully operating a commercial laundry in Joplin, Missouri that was owned by a non-profit workshop for the disabled. He oversaw the development of this laundry from its blueprint stage and grew it into one of the largest healthcare-specific laundries in the region.
After working up a business plan, Leonard and L.K. approached Kevin Jordan, a local entrepreneur, about the possibility of forming a partnership. Kevin was captivated by the concept and they all three began work in 1998. By the spring of 1999, Linen King was formed and purchased its first laundry operation from the ServiceMaster Corporation in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. In a few short months and with a great deal of hard work, early mornings, and late nights, Linen King took the struggling ServiceMaster laundry and turned it around, more than doubling the volume in the first year.
Since 1999, Linen King has experienced double-digit growth each year and has never missed a delivery nor lost an account over service. In 2002, Linen King purchased its second facility in Springdale, Arkansas, which is a state-of-the-art, healthcare specific plant. This acquisition positioned Linen King for even greater growth and regional market domination as well as provided insulated assurance as a back-up facility.
On November 13, 2003, Linen King announced a major expansion project at the Oklahoma Hospital Association Convention and Trade Show- a new, state-of-the-art healthcare laundry facility in Oklahoma City- the first new healthcare laundry to be built in Oklahoma in several decades. This ultra-modern facility utilizes the latest in healthcare laundering technology with more than one million dollars being invested in equipment alone! The facility contains two Batch Tunnel Washer Systems and a myriad of finishing equipment- all powered by Braun technology. This third plant positions Linen King as the region’s leader in providing laundry services to the healthcare industry and we are very excited about this new opportunity. Moreover, Linen King brought on a new partner, Mr. Frank Semple, and received an additional one million dollars in new equity. The new plant and additional funding capacity for growth was perfect timing for the Oklahoma City marketplace, which had been underserved over the last few decades because of a lack of any real competition.
In July of 2007, Linen King expanded again by purchasing the ISC Laundry Facility in Conway, Arkansas. This facility is a modern, healthcare-specific laundry and positions Linen King for dynamic growth in the central Arkansas market. This expansion is consistent with Linen King’s regional growth strategy and the facility has a solid, long-term base of management and skilled workers.
In late 2009, Linen King was awarded a large healthcare contract in the St. Louis, MO area, which justified plans for another Linen King facility. After significant research, Linen King discovered the perfect facility in Columbia, MO, which allows for the opportunity to serve three major markets- St. Louis, Mid-Missouri and Kansas City. At almost 53,000 square feet, Linen King’s 4th healthcare laundry in Columbia is its largest to date and has the capacity to process over 30 million pounds per year.
For future development, Linen King is now working with several organizations to develop commercial laundry facilities throughout the United States that will provide customers with unparalleled service. Linen King desires to employ a fully integrated workforce from a variety of backgrounds. The Linen King owners understand that truly great companies only succeed when their entire workforce is experiencing a better quality of life. Linen King is on the path towards establishing a new business standard, as well as creating a better life for its employees.
