COMPANY DEVELOPMENT The Linen King concept was developed from an earnest desire to operate the best linen service in the southwest region, while at the same time serving the community by employing disabled workers. In 1997, Leonard and his wife Jennie decided to move “back home” to the Tulsa area and investigate building a business with Leonard’s father, L.K. McCullough. At that time, L.K. was successfully operating a commercial laundry in Joplin, Missouri that was owned by a non-profit workshop for the disabled. He oversaw the development of this laundry from its blueprint stage and grew it into one of the largest healthcare-specific laundries in the region. After working up a business plan, Leonard and L.K. approached Kevin Jordan, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist, about the possibility of forming a partnership. Kevin was captivated by the concept and they all three began work in 1998. By the spring of 1999, Linen King was formed and purchased its first laundry operation from the ServiceMaster Corporation in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. In a few short months and with a great deal of hard work, early mornings, and late nights, Linen King took the struggling ServiceMaster laundry and turned it around, more than doubling the volume in the first year. Since 1999, Linen King has virtually doubled its volume each year and has never missed a delivery nor lost an account over service. In 2002, Linen King purchased its second facility in Springdale, Arkansas, which is a state-of-the-art, healthcare specific plant. This acquisition positions Linen King for even greater growth and regional market domination as well as providing insulated assurance as a back-up facility. As mentioned above, we have recently expanded our operations to include a second facility in Northwest Arkansas. This plant is only a few years old and utilizes modern healthcare laundry equipment. Because it is only a short distance away and also because its capacity is underutilized, it makes an excellent healthcare-specific back-up facility, which is an important feature for serving hospitals that must have a continuous supply of linen. On November 13, 2003, Linen King announced its most recent expansion project at the Oklahoma Hospital Association Convention and Trade Show- a new, state-of-the-art healthcare laundry facility in Oklahoma City. This ultra-modern facility utilizes the latest in healthcare laundering technology with more than one million dollars being invested in equipment alone! The facility contains two Batch Tunnel Washer Systems and a myriad of finishing equipment- all powered by Braun technology. This third plant positions Linen King as the region’s leader in providing laundry services to the healthcare industry and we are very excited about this new opportunity. Moreover, Linen King has brought on a new partner, Mr. Frank Semple, and has received an additional one million dollars in new equity. For future development, Linen King is now working with several organizations to develop commercial laundry facilities throughout the United States that will provide customers with unparalleled service and at the same time generate meaningful and integrated employment for disabled workers. Linen King desires to employ a fully integrated workforce from a variety of backgrounds. The Linen King owners understand that truly great companies only succeed when their entire workforce is experiencing a better quality of life. Linen King is on the path towards establishing a new business standard, as well as creating a better life for its employees.
